Collection and Evaluation of Field Case Histories

Collection and Evaluation of Field Case Histories

An earthquake reconnaissance expedition was conducted in May 2009 to the area that was affected by the 6 April 2009 M 6.3 L’Aquila earthquake in central Italy. Six members of our research team participated in this expedition and collected data on the seismic damage. Although geotechnical and foundation failures were rather limited, valuable data were collected with respect to damage of monumental and traditional structures, such as old masonry buildings, bell towers, and arched structures (Churches, etc.). The collected data is currently being reviewed and it is envisaged that some of the observed case histories will be useful for the purposes of Task 6.2.
